If you are a licensed esthetician, nurse, or PMU artist thinking about adding plasma services, the questions are always the same: how do I get certified, what does it cost, and is it legal in my state? What "plasma pen certification" actually means

There is no national plasma pen license. Your legal standing comes from the license you already hold (esthetics, cosmetology, nursing, body art) and your state's scope-of-practice rules. Certification is the device manufacturer's confirmation that you have been trained to use a specific device correctly: settings, technique, client screening, and aftercare.

That distinction matters when you shop for training. Generic "plasma training" sold separately from a device teaches a general idea of the treatment. Device-specific certification teaches the pen in your hand, which is the only training that produces consistent results and the only kind an insurer, a state inspector, or a client can verify against a provider directory.

Complete PlasmaChanneling® online. Watch the pre-recorded, self-paced video lessons and pass the quizzes. There is no completion deadline, and no model work is needed at this level.
Set up your provider profile. When you finish, we email you a personal link to set up your provider profile: your studio, services, photos and contact details.
Add your badge and get listed. Add the Plaxel certification badge, linked to your profile, to your own website. Once the badge is verified, your studio is listed in the public Certified Provider Directory with a pin on the map, and your certificate is ready to download in the training portal.
Go further with True Plasma™. The advanced True Plasma™ certification unlocks after PlasmaChanneling®. It adds model work, uploaded and reviewed personally by founder and head trainer Rachael Arnold, L.E.
Get ongoing support. Support does not end at certification. Plaxel practitioners get unlimited one-on-one support from the founder-led team and access to the private student community.

Training fees become non-refundable once 30 percent or more of the online course has been completed. US financing is available on the device and on standalone training.

State requirements and scope of practice

Plasma services sit in a regulatory gray area that varies by state. In most US states a licensed esthetician or cosmetologist can offer them within their scope of practice; some states require advanced or paramedical esthetics credentials; a few restrict energy-based services to medical settings. The only authoritative answer for your state is your own licensing board.

Three things practitioners learn the hard way, covered in depth in our state regulations guide:

Ask your board the right way. Contact the authority that issued your license, describe the service accurately (plasma energy delivered to the surface of the epidermis without puncturing the skin), and provide only the information requested.
Use the right vocabulary. Terms such as "Plasma Energy Facial", "Collagen Induction Therapy" and "PlasmaChanneling®" describe the service. The word "fibroblast" carries baggage with regulators because of the scarring and pigmentation complaints that followed electric-arc pen misuse; leave it out of conversations with officials and out of your marketing.
Know the pathways in strict states. Practitioners in restrictive states work under a medical director, operate plasma services under a tattoo or body-art permit, separate esthetics and body-art services into different rooms, or post a non-medical services disclaimer. Which of these your state accepts is a board question, not a Plaxel question.

Insurance

Standard esthetician liability insurance may not cover plasma services. Confirm coverage in writing with your insurer before you book your first client, and ask specifically about energy-based services. Insurers experienced in aesthetics, such as those affiliated with ASCP or HOTA, are the usual starting point, and a device-specific certificate is what they will ask to see.

What you can charge once you are certified
